The artist Albert Bierstadt painted this scene in 1888 of Buffalo hunting in the great plains. Art was an important tool to communicate and raise awareness of environmental issues, and in this case, Bierstadt draws attention to the over hunting hunting of buffalo in order to move Native Americans onto reservations. At the time, the suffering of animals and the environment that were used as a political tool, but many Americans have realized, after endangering the buffalo species, that nature should be treated with more respect.
