From the first unanimous election to the controversy over in 2016, the idea of democracy and the people's ability to self-govern has been questioned constantly. Our elections describe the freedom Americans have in deciding how we want our nation to be run and who will lead it. We have this privilege of liberty because of the success in the Revolutionary War. Even before then, elections have been a symbol of our own self-rule and self-sufficiency, and have gone through reform and change throughout the past 200 years - scandals, corruptions, and racial divides. Since the beginning, these elections have been a source of great pride for us as Americans, as they are an example for other countries that are on their way to a democratic government. Elections are generally something to look forward to and are a way to share your voice as a citizen of the United States of America. They have formed the basis for our political system and our modern society today.
