Image From Space
In December, 1968, Bill Anders took this photograph from Earth's moon on the Apollo 8 mission. Shortly afterward, it became an icon for the environmental movement, encouraging action to preserve our planet. Images from space travel depicted Earth as small and vulnerable. In the midst of tragedy, war, and conflict, this photo was a symbol of global unity, appearing in newspapers across the country.
